David S. Traub: Discovering Philadelphia

"Discovering Philadelphia: Places Little Known" carries on the mission launched by David Traub with his first book of photographs, "Searching for Philadelphia." Once again, Traub introduces his readers to his “secret city”: a network of unique buildings, streets and places in the city that readers might otherwise overlook. This time, however, Traub takes a geographic approach to Philadelphia’s unusual sites. He divides the book into seven broad locations, each a web of neighborhoods with a distinct character.

With a playful and neighborly tone, Traub turns a keen architect’s eye to the doorways, small parks, alleys, and other treasures hidden in plain sight. With its stunning and intimate views and its thoughtful captions, Discovering Philadelphia is an ode to the history and diversity of a great American city. It is an original photographic collection to be enjoyed for many years to come.

About the Author: David S. Traub studied architecture at the University of Pennsylvania under Louis I. Kahn. He has been an architect in private practice since 1974. The author of many articles concerning architectural preservation, he is also the co-founder of the Philadelphia preservation organization, Save Our Sites (SOS).
